Christmas Tournament and Dinner 2023

We held our annual Christmas tournament on Sunday with 22 participants braving all weathers! Full members mixed in with Improvers as well as coaches (and organisers) Duncan & Roger. The format was timed team tennis which provided a good mix of pairs and some excellent competitive games. The team that eventually came out on top was made up of  Martin, Tessa, Paul, Satwat, Gary and Duncan.

Everyone enjoyed the mulled wine and mince pies provided by Len and Mary – appropriately in the Claremont Lounge.

The Christmas dinner followed later in the lounge with around 50 members and partners enjoying a fine 3 course festive spread from James and the team.

At the end of the meal Corni made the presentation for the Member of the Year award. The nominees this year were Veronique Fletcher, Sarah Wells, Sally-Ann Daniels, Jim Kitchen, Wendy Jackson, Mary Claremont, Lee Strongitharm, Andrew Bardwell and Katerina Bunce. As always, the majority of those nominated are committee members reflecting the appreciation members hold for the volunteers who run the club.

The winner was announced as Kevin Uwins primarily for the ‘behind the scenes’ work in a range of areas. His wife Pauline was also presented with a box of chocolates by Corni for her ‘supportive’ role!
