Our handicap tournament event took place at the weekend and proved to be an overwhelming…
Ashford’s Christmas fun tournament was a great success this year! 36 players of all ages and abilities braved the cold for 3 hours of closely fought team tennis! The tournament was played in the spirit it was intended with loads of laughs and new friendships forged!
This years champions were the Gingerbread House team captained by Sally-Ann Daniels.
Following the tournament we had our traditional buffet style Christmas dinner which over 50 members & partners enjoyed. As always James and his team produced a wonderful spread.
After the meal, Len Claremont presented the Member of the Year award for 2021. Initially he thanked the tennis club committee for their hard work in running the club over the past 2 years – carrying on throughout the pandemic by using zoom meetings etc.
There were nominations for the award for 7 different members –
Kevin Uwins– for his work with the club website; the Clubspark Booking System and general communications to the members by email.
Mary Claremont – for her efforts on fundraising for the club.
Peter Cox – for organising the men’s team practice on Monday evenings.
Wendy Jackson – for receiving and dealing with all new member enquiries.
Keith Claxton – for running the over 50’s and beginner coaching.
Pavel Goncharov – for his enthusiasm as a new member.
But the person who received more votes than all the others put together was Sally-Ann Daniels. Our well deserved Member of the Year, Sally-Ann has put so much into welcoming and organising new members. She is also an active committee member holding the posts of secretary as well as being the beginner/improver rep.
