Beginners/Improvers Fun Tournament

On Sunday March 13 the first Beginners and Improvers fun tournament of 2016 took place.

The weather was perfect; it was a beautiful warm sunny afternoon and we couldn’t believe our luck!

The twenty players were paired up by an independent expert (Matt) and placed into two groups. We used a handicap scoring system and had a time limit of 15 minutes per game. We were delighted to be joined by some Juniors and Seniors so there was a good mix of ages and abilities. It was a fun, sociable event, helped by the half time tea and cake, and enjoyed by all.

At the final whistle there was not a great difference in the scores. The top two teams had 17 and 16 games respectively, followed by quite a few pairs on 15 games – so the handicap scoring and pairings system worked perfectly.

The winners of the final play off were Stuart and Claire, with Rosemary and Dan as runners up.

Thanks to Kerry for multi tasking by manning the scoreboard, blowing the whistle and making the tea as well as masterminding the organisation, aided by myself and Kevin.
