Another very successful Sliding Handicap tournament was held on Sunday 9 May organised by Len Claremont with the help of his whistle-blower, Alex Sharma-Drake and the 32 people who took part.

Despite being docked an additional 5 games, Roy Marshall and his partner Pauline Uwins, still made it to the final, but after a closely contested tie-break they were beaten by Ruth Gonzaga and Robert Ringshaw.

It was a chilly, but dry day, the only dampener being, not the weather, but an over-ambitious dive for a ball by Keith Lester resulting in a dislocated finger. He was hoping to get a sympathy vote and to have an extra digit added to his score! But after a quick visit to A&E at which he was given gas and air (and then produced a 6lb gell - sorry, typo - should be yell!) he was back at the club for the final round, only to find that reserves from the baseline had taken his place. Unfortunately they couldn't bring the score up sufficiently for Keith to make the final so he was given a two-finger Kitkat as a consolation prize!

As there are now so many club members from around the world it has been suggested that the tournament is renamed the Sliding Handicap International Tournament but the shortened version of initials only wouldn't look too good on the trophy so that's been abandoned!

Well done to everyone who took part and lasted the seven rounds. The photos say it all.
