The day was quite hot and with almost no wind making conditions good for play except for the soaring temperature.
In their first match, the early games were hard fought and quite even until Leanne and Penny lifted their game and took the first set 6-3. The second set featured a few close games but Leanne and Penny were too strong and won 6-0.
In Leanne and Penny’s first set of their second match, the first few games were a close tussle with some long rallies. Leanne struggled to find her rhythm early on and Westside raced away to a 4-1 lead. Some better play by Leanne and consistent form by Penny saw Ashford close the gap and eventually take the set 7-5. In the second set, Leanne and Penny won the first two games before Estelle withdrew from the match with a back injury after the first two games, leaving Ashford with a 6-0 win.
Jo and Margaret started their first match strongly with Jo’s forehead working well whilst the opposing team struggled with power and consistency. Some consistent tennis by the Ashford pairing saw them take the first set 6-1. In the second set, Westside improved in their play and games went backwards and forward before Jo and Margaret pushed ahead to win 6-3.
Westside’s team in the second match struggled to keep balls in and with some good serving by Margaret and intercepting by Jo, Ashford scored an easy win 6-0 in the first set. The second set saw the Westside pair lift their game but Jo and Margaret played consistently to take the set 6-2.
